Overview of market development of N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) industry in China in 2022

There are many synthetic routes of NMP, but there are mainly three industrial synthetic routes: γ- Non catalytic continuous production of NMP process for butyrolactone and monomethylamine, non catalytic continuous production of NMP process for GBL and mixed methylamine, and dehydrogenation amination of 1,4-butanediol to prepare NMP process.

Internationally, the major manufacturers of N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) include BASF, Mitsubishi Chemical Co., Ltd., Ryonde and ISP.

Although the output of N-methylpyrrolidone in China has increased rapidly, there is still room for development in high-end fields. It can be seen from the import and export data in recent years that the number of N-methylpyrrolidone imports in China is still large and increasing year by year. In 2017, China imported 0.88 million tons of N-methylpyrrolidone, a year-on-year increase of 41.93%. China's high-end N-methylpyrrolidone products are still insufficient.

Overcapacity and low-level price competition will exist for a long time, and quality improvement and transformation and upgrading will face urgent pressure.
